Globe Customers Recreate Noche Buena for Families in Albay Through Their Rewards Points

When multiple supertyphoons hit the Philippines last November, the Bicol Region and many of its provinces were among the areas badly devastated by strong winds, rain,  and floods. Amidst the rubble, the Filipino bayanihan spirit emerged as help from different organizations and concerned individuals immediately came their way.

This Christmas season, Globe customers also extended a helping hand to displaced families in Albay, Bicol by using their Globe Rewards points to bring Christmas cheer. Noche Buena Christmas baskets were distributed to affected families, each basket filled with RFM’s Noche Buena essentials that includes Filipinos' most loved brands like Fiesta, Royal, White King, Selecta, and Sunkist.

For every redemption of a Noche Buena Giftbox via the Globe Rewards App,  Globe matched each with a hearty Christmas Eve meal  to a family in Albay. As of December 21, a total of 12,000 Noche Buena Giftboxes have been turned over and distributed to 9 hard-hit municipalities in the province through the help of Ayala Foundation.

"On behalf of the people of Albay, we wish to extend our million thanks to the Globe company, one of the Ayala Group of Companies, through the Ayala Foundation. It's really a great help to us and I hope we can maintain this kind of partnership. This can also shorten our period of recovery,” said Albay Governor Francis Bichara.

“Aside from redeeming gifts and freebies, Globe customers can also make a difference in their  communities or chosen advocacies using their rewards points,” said Joey Kilayko, Head of Rewards. “On top of the  Noche Buena Giftbox donation, a total of Php 17 million worth of points has also been raised for various beneficiaries and advocacies as of November 30, 2020.”

While 2020 was indeed unprecedented and a tough year for so many Filipinos to say the least,  we all need to remember that the #ChristmasWeLove need not be centered on grand festivities, but on the acts of kindness each of us is willing to share.  Because, where there is kindness, there is Christmas.

Download the Globe Rewards app now to redeem rewards and support different causes. Visit glbe.co/GRewardsApp to know more.

Kiana V Shares the Stories Behind Her Hits in Exclusive Meet & Greet on Globe Virtual Hangouts

Last December 3, Paradise Rising artists Kiana V, Fern, Jason Dhakal, Massiah, and Leila Alcasid performed alongside 88rising artists and other global acts on the Double Happiness Winter Wonder Festival featured on Globe Virtual Hangouts. This is the inaugural event of the newest concert platform that aims to showcase the best of Asian talents, Eastern Standard Time.

In line with this, Virtual Hangouts invited Kiana V for an exclusive Double Happiness Festival online meet and greet where she shared how the experience performing in the online fest was plus some never before told stories about her hit songs. Lucky fans also got to ask her their personal questions and even received surprise giveaways!

About performing in the Double Happiness Winter Wonder Festival

Kiana described the experience as “thrilling” especially having to work with an amazing crew for the show. “I hadn’t performed outside of my bedroom for a very long time. It kinda made me a little anxious at the start knowing that I’ll be in front of a professional crew where I have to get all dressed up and perform for more than just my camera,” she added. “I’m excited for this crazy pandemic to blow over, because it’s really so much fun to work with different people and that was what I enjoyed the most.”

To get ready for her performance, Kiana had to go back to doing her vocal exercises religiously and mentally prepare herself. “It was really a lot of mental preparation that went into it, reminding myself that ‘it’s back to work’ and being open to collaboration and feedback.”

Stories behind the hits

During the meet and greet, Kiana played a little game of spin the wheel with the host  where she had to share a trivia or a fun fact behind each song that the wheel will land on. Here’s some of our favorites:

Corners started as poetry that Kiana wrote while on a flight to Malaysia. Eventually, she found herself in California with some friends where she started singing the then poem over music. “It just fit so well so we decided that we’re going to work together and make it a full song.”

When it comes to her collaboration with Filipino-Aussie artist and producer Billy Davis, No Rush, Kiana originally envisioned to be an ethereal, RnB ballad type of song, but after working on it with Billy in the studio, it had turned out to be the upbeat and danceable track that we all love. She noted that this is one of the things that she loves about working with producers in the studio, because you’ll never know where they will take you.

On the shooting of the Safe Place music video, Kiana shared that despite it being a crazy and worrisome time in California due to the rising COVID-19 cases, the 88rising and Paradise Rising teams were so collaborative and quick to send inspiration and moodboards. The play on different fabrics as seen on the video is the director’s idea to convey how something so beautiful can also be suffocating. It’s thinking that you have found your safe place but in the end, it’s not as safe as you think.

What’s next for Kiana V?

2021 is going to be a good year for all fans of Kiana, because according to her, she will be releasing “lots of new music” of the year to come. No details yet but be sure to always be on the lookout on her social media pages!

Make Holiday Bonding More Special with GMovies

With Christmas around the corner, families are already making holiday plans. The pandemic has prohibited us from gathering in large crowds, so we will likely spend the Christmas season at home. Thankfully, the internet has made it possible for us to see and experience the world outside even if we’re indoors.

One of the best ways to spend a holiday  weekend is to watch great movies. Globe is recreating the cinema experience with GMovies through its partnership with video on demand (VOD) platform UPSTREAM. Now, you can stream new and classic movies, both local and foreign titles,  from the comfort of your home.

Here’s how to  make your family’s holiday bonding more special with GMovies and UPSTREAM:

1.    Set up a cozy space. An advantage of having movie night at home is that you can design your space the way you want it. Work with what you have, whether it’s a bed, a couch, or a laptop to screen your films. Make it cozy by having a warm blanket, lots of pillows, and enough space to get comfortable.

2.    Prepare snacks. What would movie night be without snacks? Recreate the cinema by microwaving some popcorn (with extra butter, of course), or create a grazing spread with all your favorite snacks. Make it fancy with some cheese and cold cuts, or keep it casual with your favorite chips, nachos, and soda.

3.    Fun activities between movies. A movie marathon can be long and you’ll want time to stretch your legs and move around in between films. Use the time to bond with your family by having fun activities, like a board or card game, a chance to cook some snacks or refill drinks, or just sit around and talk about the last movie you watched.

4.    Watch classic Filipino films. The Metro Manila Film Festival (MMFF) is a much-awaited annual cinematic event, made even more special this year by a pre-festival retrospective to be mounted byGMovies and UPSTREAM. MMFF has always been diverse with their offerings, so the pre-game will have movies for everyone. Comedy fans will love Die Beautiful (2016) and Enteng Kabisote: Okay Ka Fairy Ko... The Legend (2004), while those who love rom-coms can stream English Only, Please (2014). For horror fans, there’s Shake, Rattle & Roll 2K5 (2005), The Echo or Sigaw (2004), and Spirit Warriors (2000). The MMFF retrospective runs from December 7 to 24.

5.    Welcome Christmas with the MMFF. This year’s MMFF will welcome Christmas yet again on December 25. This year’s lineup includes interesting titles, such as Antoinette Jadaone’s Fan Girl, which premiered at the Tokyo International Film Festival; the rom-com and boy’s love film The Boy Foretold by the Stars; and Magikland, a big-budget sci-fi movie directed by the late Peque Gallaga.

To get movie night started, families can simply visit the GMovies website, select the movie they want to watch, and pay via GCash or debit or credit card. Make bonding time with the family more special during the holidays with a movie marathon with GMovies and UPSTREAM!

For more information, visit the GMovies website at gmovies.ph/ or follow GMovies on Facebook (facebook.com/GMoviesApp) and Instagram (@GMovies).

With sound designed by Meridian, LG FN6 TONE Free delivers clear and spatial audio. No matter where you are, become completely immersed in whatever you listen to and forget you are wearing earbuds.

Meridian developed MQA – the revolutionary technology for efficiently streaming music with the highest possible sound quality. With MQA you can be sure that you’re hearing exactly what the artist approved in the studio. Meridian’s Headphone Spatial Processing (HSP) overcomes the challenges of headphone listening such as their compact size and lack of ‘crosstalk’ between the left and right channels. HSP not only recreates a realistic soundstage that simulates the experience of listening to real loudspeakers, but it also delivers vocals with pristine clarity. This is a fresh listening experience helping you forget you are wearing earbuds.

LG ensures that the hardware is up to par with all of Meridian’s innovations. A custom-built driver unit optimizes how you experience Meridian sound. This powerful yet compact unit promotes vocal clarity and intensifies rich bass. LG TONE Free earbuds are encased in soft, medical-grade ear gels made with a non-toxic and hypoallergenic silicone. These comfortable ear gels allow you to have fewer worries about what you use all-day. One of the most interesting innovations that the LG FN6 TONE Free offers is its UVnano charging case. Normal earbud use can host a multitude of bacteria but LG’s charging dock kills 99.9% of bacteria on the speaker mesh while charging, letting you enjoy without worrying about germs.

Water resistance has your earbuds protected when you’re sweating while working out or walking in the rain. The earbuds are IPX4-rated, meaning that they are resistant to water splashes from any direction, so you can keep listening—rain or shine. Enjoy a total of 18 hours of battery life on-the-go. You get up to 6 hours of playback in the earbuds and an extra 12 hours in the charging case—all from one charge. No time? No problem. Just 5 minutes of charging will give you 1 hour of playtime.

Never lose your earbuds again. Being introduced together with the wireless earbuds is the LG Find My Earbuds App. You can easily locate your missing earbuds that will beep with a sound when you press play in the Find My Earbuds page. The app also comes with customizable EQ settings. With the easy-to-use app, you can add new levels of enjoyment to your music with four Meridian EQ presets and two customizable EQ modes. Boost or diminish specific frequencies to personalize all music just how you like it.

LG’s TONE Free earbuds are balanced for a better fit. The earbuds have been engineered to fit comfortably in your ears with head-centered weight distribution that helps them stay snug and secure. The flexible, medical-grade ear gels conform to your ear shape so that you can longer enjoy music without feeling your earbuds. LG TONE Free HBS-FN6 features built-in, high-performance dual microphones for maximum call clarity. Echo Cancellation and Noise Reduction, which is engineered with the leading beamforming algorithm of LG TONE neckband series, detects and minimizes unwanted noise. And the lower microphone is positioned at the end of the stem picks up and amplifies your vocals even in a crowded space.

A simple tap on your earbuds lets you be fully aware of your surroundings. This mode is useful when you need to have a quick conversation, pick up an announcement on public transportation, or cross a street. It’s a more convenient and safer way to enjoy music.

The LG FN6 TONE Free wireless earbuds retails for PhP 6,490. It is not yet available locally, but will be sold on LG Philippines’ flagship Lazada store come 2021.

Robinsons Bank is bringing smiles in the homes of children this Christmas

In this Season of Giving, Robinsons Bank’s promise of a brighter future for every Filipino took the path of donating electronic tablets to schoolchildren in various communities nationwide to help them cope with the requirements of online schooling for the coming year.

“Many families are still struggling with the setup of remote learning, whether it is the lack of a gadget to use or difficulty in accessing the internet. We wanted to provide support to these children so they can continue with their education and achieve the brighter future they deserve,” RBank President Elfren Antonio Sarte stated.

Mr. Sarte also added that “Our strong advocacy on financial literacy for children has led us to witness their eagerness and passion for learning. It would be disheartening to know that there are children out there who want to keep learning but have no means to. So, we pushed for this initiative to really help those children in need.”

In lieu of RBank’s corporate giveaways, the children received sim cards along with the electronic tablets, which they can use to access the internet for their online schooling.

Despite the challenges that this year has brought, the Bank’s passion for service remains unwavering. RBank will always be committed to fulfilling the needs of the Filipino people.

With Robinsons Bank, the future is bright!

Robinsons Bank is the financial services arm of the JG Summit Group of Companies, one of the largest conglomerates in the Philippines. It currently ranks 18th among universal and commercial banks in the country, with assets amounting to Php 131.088 Bn as of December 2019. The Bank is recognized as the Fastest Growing Commercial Bank in the Philippines for 2020 by the Global Business Outlook; and the Best Commercial Bank in the Philippines for 2020 by the International Business Magazine. RBank was also recognized as an Outstanding Employer at the PH Best Employer Brand Awards 2020.

Get Inspired, Relax and Unwind With the Latest Movies and Series with Globe and Netflix

Unlike before, we cannot just head to the mall to stroll, shop, or watch movies at the cinemas whenever we feel bored at home. As a matter of fact, our homes have now become a place for everything including entertainment. Streaming platforms redefined the way content is consumed and Netflix has become a household name for its wide breadth of movies, series, documentaries, and original content that anyone can pull up anytime they feel the need to relax and unwind.

This is why getting yourself a Netflix subscription is one of the most worthwhile purchases you can make nowadays. With all the time we are spending at home, watching movies and series is one way to gain inspiration to pursue and discover new passions like taking on your business dreams with the hit Korean series Start-Up or rehashing your chess-playing skills with The Queen’s Gambit! Already done with these? Here’s a tip: whenever you can’t decide what to watch, or feel like you’ve already watched it all, create a list of your must-watch titles on Netflix and exchange them with your friends. Who knows, you might just discover your next favorite thing!

Whether you are on the go or staying at home, you can stream a whole ton of movies and series uninterrupted (no ads!) and in HD with Netflix’s flexible plans. The Mobile plan is perfect for those who do not want to miss an episode of their favorite shows, while the Premium plan is best for families since it allows streams across four devices.

And with Globe, your Netflix experience is made even more convenient since you can charge your subscription to your Globe Postpaid or Globe At Home Postpaid bill. You can also choose and change your subscription plans anytime depending on what best fits your viewing needs.

“In a time where streaming films and movies have become some sort of a repose for most of us, Globe and Netflix make world class entertainment more accessible to viewers by providing an easier way to pay for their subscription even without a credit card,” said Griselda Bausa-Go, Vice President of Globe's Get Entertained Tribe. “With this, we also aim to encourage Filipinos to watch their favorite shows and movies through legitimate platforms like Netflix.”

Watch How Globe Helps Filipinos Recreate the #ChristmasWeLove This Holiday Season

Filipinos are known to have the grandest (and longest) Christmas celebrations out there, complete with all kinds of traditions and merry-making. Now that safety restrictions are still in place, however, we are definitely looking at a very different kind of celebration this year. While it’s hard not to feel deflated in the absence of the usual Christmas buzz, maybe we can take it as an opportunity to cherish those in our lives, while also giving a bit of ourselves to people around us, extending kindness and support in any way we can.

Through its newest video, Globe highlights how small acts of kindness can bring us together, show our thoughtfulness, and help us celebrate the traditions we treasure this season. Just like its commitment to help Filipinos recreate better days, Globe is one with all of us in continuing to celebrate the #ChristmasWeLove despite the uncertainty of the times we live in.

Globe believes that where there is kindness, there is Christmas. Strip away the shiny decorations and lights, and we see the season is really all about love and generosity of spirit. Every time we choose to be a blessing to others, whether it’s to our loved ones or complete strangers, we are embodying the true meaning of Christmas and sharing its magic to more people in the hopes of them paying it forward to others as well.

Part of the holiday magic lies in the traditions we cherish every year.  This year, Globe makes it possible for the 2020 Metro Manila Film Festival (MMFF) to go on, with its movies streamed through the new video-on-demand platform, Upstream, and tickets from GMovies.  Filipinos anywhere can now watch the best and brightest of local films as they do every Christmas season.  Globe’s 12 Treats of Christmas also promises to recreate Christmas cheer through an array of digital holiday events and experiences such as SuperGamerFest thru Globe Prepaid Virtual Hangouts, a Christmas Concert @ Home featuring December Avenue by Globe At Home, and a Christmas edition of Globe Poppin Quiz Night.

The TM FunPasko Music Fest on December 15 is also an enjoyable event not to be missed,  where local artists like SB19, The Juans, and Donnalyn Bartolome will perform on the virtual stage to delight everyone at home!

To cap the holiday fun, special Christmas offers from various merchants await customers at the Globe Rewards app. Use your points to redeem rewards from [merchants] and even to different causes and organizations that Globe supports.

This holiday season, celebrating the #ChristmasWeLove is made possible with Globe. To know more about this story, visit globe.com.ph/christmas.

Sneak Peek on the Future of Gaming with 5G by Globe's Holi-Games

With all the time we are spending at home, more and more people are turning to  gaming as a fun way to bond with friends and family even when they are miles away. If you’re  looking to level up your game, Globe has just what you need.

For the Holi-Games Showcase, the 3rd episode of Globe’s #ChristmasWeLove Live Pop-Up, celebrity couple and gamers Mikael Daez and Megan Young demonstrated how Globe 5G can usher in the new generation of gaming for everyone with its promise of lower latency and lightning-fast speeds.

Through this, cloud gaming becomes possible, which means you can play a wide array of games on demand without having to buy a console or a gaming PC – all you need is your phone! To show how amazing this can be, Mikael and Megan played a game of King of Fighters XIII on the Gameloft Stream powered by Blacknut Cloud Gaming App, of course using Globe 5G. The two noted how smooth and seamless the gameplay is as they did not experience any input lag while playing.

When talking about 5G, virtual reality (VR) will  always be in the conversation. VR provides a more immersive and dynamic experience to the game, bringing the players into different worlds beyond their limited space. If you want to discover and watch VR videos for free, you can try it  on YouTube, the official VR partner of Globe, using the Globe VR cardboard. This is a great way to travel virtually this holiday while staying safe at home.

Finally, the much-awaited Niantic AR Demo trailer was also shown at the Holli-Games Showcase. Globe is the only Southeast Asian founding member of the Niantic Planet-Scale AR Alliance, which will make available exclusive 5G-ready AR content, and demonstrate consumer AR experiences that set the standard for what innovation means in a 5G world.

Because it’s the season of giving, Mikael and Megan gave Globe 5G-ready phones to three lucky viewers who answered the League of Legends: Wild Rift Pop Quiz questions correctly so they can jumpstart their 5G journey with Globe. They also played a League of Legends: Wild Rift match-up with Team Liyab where the winner gets to donate Php 50,000 to their charity of choice. In the end, Megan and her team won for Smile Train Philippines.

You can also play Wild Rift with your friends when you subscribe to GoSURF with free GoWatch and Play, GG30 and GG50, or GoPLAY10 booster for Globe Prepaid via the GlobeOne app.

You may still catch Globe’s Holi-Games show on Globe’s Facebook page via this link: https://www.facebook.com/globeph/videos/1270674469960844/.

Globe’s powerful 5G network is now available in 11 cities in Metro Manila, and in key areas in Davao and Cebu. Visit globe.com.ph/5g to know more.

Canva’s ‘Makers And Shapers’ Report: The Designs That Defined 2020

Global graphic design platform, Canva, today released its inaugural end-of-year ‘Makers and Shapers’ Report, highlighting how users from around the world reacted to some of the biggest history-making events that took place in 2020.

From businesses navigating the COVID-19 pandemic, through to the catastrophic natural disasters that ravaged the Philippines, Canva’s global community of 40 million active users have designed and shared everything from social media posts to online presentations — to amplify, educate and inspire people with their message.

Explore the major trends from Canva’s data below, to understand how Filipinos, and those across the world, have used visual communications to help reach their goals this year:

COVID-19: The World Pivots As Misinformation Spreads

The impact of COVID-19 has been felt across the globe. Since March, Canva saw over 2.9 million search queries for COVID-related templates as the world came to grips with responding to the pandemic. Canva’s community turned to the design platform to create awareness posters, social media material, and WHO-approved health information in a bid to help #StopTheSpread of misinformation and keep communities COVID safe.

Canva’s in-house design team created more than 2,100 corona virus templates, backed by accurate information from the World Health Organization, that were made freely available amid the uncertainty, shared by news organizations, government bodies, and consumers across the globe.

Globally, over 14 million COVID templates were downloaded, with the top five most active countries using these templates among some of the hardest hit in terms of COVID-19 casualties, including USA, Brazil, Mexico, Indonesia, and Colombia.

Society Moves to a Virtual World

2020 was the year of the Zoom background, as more people were forced to shift to remote working, learning, and entertainment. Over 195,000 Filipinos downloaded templates for Zoom backgrounds, as meetings and gatherings were mostly held online. Leading the charge, users in the USA downloaded 1.3 million Zoom backgrounds alone — that equates to 1 in every 253 people across the country using a Canva Zoom background design this year. Globally, over 4 million Zoom backgrounds were created and downloaded on Canva.

With getaways to some of the world’s most adored holidays destinations off the cards this year, it seems most  Canva users have expressed their dreams of a “tranquil” getaway through their Zoom backgrounds, with the top three most downloaded templates globally including a tropical beach, a peaceful waterfall, and a serene underwater seascape.

Visual templates such as presentations were crucial in helping people communicate and collaborate
remotely, with businesses, teams, educators, and students, all shifting to remote work.

Canva for Education, launched earlier this year, saw rapid uptake as online learning and virtual classrooms became the new norm. With over 700 new templates published to the education platform this year, the top five downloaded education templates for the year were:

2020: The Year of the Side Hustle

With many businesses impacted by COVID-19, the pandemic also sparked a new wave of innovators and creative entrepreneurs. 2020 saw people of all ages pivot to launch their mini side hustle, passion project, or new business, using Canva.

In the Philippines, around 3.3 million logos were created to date while the whole world registered record-breaking results:

·         More than 65 million new logos were designed on Canva — that’s more than 7,400 new logos created every single hour (or over 123 every single minute) around the world

·         Over 12 million business cards were printed globally through Canva Print — which is more than the entire population of Belgium!

Saving The World: Climate Change

Canva’s climate change collection templates were downloaded more than 2.6 million times as climate activists shared their passionate campaign messages via posters, social media material, and event flyers.

Greta Thunberg and David Attenborough were also among some of the most searched-for climate-related queries on the Canva platform.

Canva partnered with youth-led group, Future Coalition, to create assets for the 2020 Earth Day Digital Strikes. The colorful templates created by Canva’s in-house designers were used by thousands of digital strikers around the world.

Touching Tributes

And for those we lost in 2020, mourning fans paid their respects to passed icons through compelling and nostalgic design tributes. Kobe Bryant (January 26), Chadwick Boseman (August 28), and Ruth Bader Ginsberg (September 18) were among the most searched-for figures on the Canva platform this year as fans, supporters, and the media reacted to their passing with touching visual tributes on social media and beyond.

… And Finally, Some Fun Facts;

·         Canva saw record growth in 2020, reaching over 40 million monthly active users.

·         For those who love their fonts, the top three most used font types in the Philippines for 2020 were: Glacial Indifference, League Spartan, Anton

·         On the bright side: Canva users were sharing the love in 2020, with the Heart textbox and Love symbol among the most used stickers this year. Most used stickers in the Philippines were:

·         Primary colors were on point this year, being the most used colors in the Philippines: #FFDE59, #FF1616, #004AAD

·         Over 540 ‘Canvanauts’ joined the Canva team in 2020.
