Smart Communications, Inc. recently dropped its latest TVC for Smart Prepaid headlined by K-Pop’s “It” group of 2021, TOMORROW x TOGETHER.

Fresh off the massive success of its partnership with 21st century pop icons BTS,
Smart carries on by teaming up with TOMORROW x TOGETHER (TXT) to promote “Build Your Own GIGA,” a breakthrough feature on the GigaLife App that gives prepaid subscribers the ease and convenience to make their own GIGA promos according to their passion and lifestyle needs.

We recognize that many of our young subscribers have different lifestyle needs based on their dreams and various interests. We want to give them the freedom and flexibility to build the perfect GIGA promo with just a few taps on the GigaLife App. This is one of the most efficient ways for Smart to inspire the Filipino youth. Let the young ones set a path for a better tomorrow,” says Jane J. Basas, SVP and Head of Consumer Wireless Business at Smart.

The choice of TOMORROW X TOGETHER as the young and effervescent headliners for “Build Your Own GIGA” couldn’t have come at a more opportune time. Recognized globally as one of music’s top acts and rallied by their fandom called MOA (short for Moments of Alwaysness), the five-member group resonates with Smart Prepaid’s youth-driven purpose.

Fans are naturally drawn to the music of TOMORROW X TOGETHER because of their signature sound. The music is similarly distinct, as they connect with their listeners through personal stories about the challenges that comes along with growing-up. With that, they are able to represent our young subscribers’ desire to constantly build on their passions and stay committed to their dreams despite the odds,” said Basas.

In their very first TVC for Smart, a production abundant in special effects and themes exploring virtual reality and digital technology, TOMORROW X TOGETHER shows how Smart Prepaid subscribers can build their own GIGA in five clear and concise steps:

1. BUILD. HUENINGKAI talks about the ability to choose your preferred promo validity. Options offered are 3 days, 7 days, and 30 days.

2. PICK. YEONJUN shows how convenient it is to customize your GIGA promo based on your passions – from Video, Stories, Games, Study, Work, or Music.

3. CHOOSE. TAEHYUN presents the option to select from 10 GB to 24 GB of Open Access Data to access all other sites and apps.

4. ADD. SOOBIN explains the option to add specific content from the Entertainment Packs on the GigaLife App.

5. SHARE. BEOMGYU rounds it up with the option to share your own BYOG promo to friends and family. In return, you can earn data rewards and lifestyle perks via GigaPoints, redeemable within the app.

To enjoy the BYOG experience, make sure you download and update the GigaLife App on the Google Play Store or the Apple Store.

Upon logging in to the GigaLife App, simply tap the BYOG tile, click Build, and customize just as each of TOMORROW X TOGETHER members demonstrated.

For an easier way of paying for your GIGA promos and racking up more GigaPoints, be sure to activate GigaPay with PayMaya on the GigaLife App. Once GigaPay has been enabled, buying load and subscribing to promos on the GigaLife App can be as easy as clicking your preferred offer and swiping across your screen to confirm your purchase.

Nestlé PH launches vaccinations for employees, dependents, business partners

Pursuing the protection of health in and out of the workplace amid the COVID-19 pandemic, Nestlé Philippines has launched its vaccination program called “YOU CALL THE SHOTS #WeGotYour Vax” covering all employees, their qualified dependents, and business partners.

The program, administered based on government priority guidelines, highlights personal responsibility in caring for one’s health while underscoring Nestlé Philippines’ commitment to support vaccination efforts across the country, in solidarity with the recovery program of the national government.

Earlier in the year, the company had implemented several vaccine awareness campaigns including:

  • Know Your Vax – a series of talakayans or discussions in the form of employee webinars with Dr. Anna Lisa Ong Lim, of the Department of Health Technical Advisory Group;

  •    Just the Vacts – a series of COVID-19 facts to promote credible vaccine resources on vaccine safety;

  •   I Call the Shots – a series of employee testimonials on why they have chosen to be vaccinated, starting with the company’s own doctors and leaders.

This vaccination initiative in the private sector is part of "A Dose of Hope," a program led by Presidential Adviser for Entrepreneurship and Go Negosyo Founder Joey Concepcion, which brings together the private sector, the national government, and pharmaceutical company AstraZeneca for the nation's multi-sectoral strategy to beat COVID-19.

Through its partnership with GoNegosyo, International Container Terminal Services Inc.- Foundation (ITCSI Foundation), and local government units, Nestlé Philippines is now actively vaccinating employees at all its work locations. By the first of week August, at least 80% of its workforce will have already received at least the first dose of the COVID-19 vaccine.

“(Nagpabakuna ako) para maproteksyunan ang sarili ko, ang mga mahal ko sa buhay, pamilya, ganun na rin ang mga kasama sa trabaho,” said Jim Malangis, president of the Nestlé Cabuyao Factory Workers Union.

[Translation:  I got vaccinated to protect myself, my loved ones and family, and my colleagues at work.]

“Alam natin na laganap pa ang COVID-19 sa labas, pero kailangan natin magpatuloy na magtrabaho sa planta,” according to Alex Ular, a supervisor and the first vaccine recipient at the factory.

[Translation:  COVID-19 continues to be widespread outside, but we need to keep working in the factory.]

“As a microbiologist, I think it is my responsibility to share sa community what the benefits of being vaccinated are,” noted Matthew Santos, a quality assurance analyst.

“Vaccines are so important in the fight against COVID-19. This is why the implementation of our vaccination program has such a high priority. We recognize that the vaccines help prevent serious illness even if we do get sick,” stated Nestlé Philippines Chairman and CEO Kais Marzouki.

Cebuana Lhuillier remains committed in providing out-of-school youths and adult learners with the opportunity to go back to school, giving them a chance to a better future. Seen here is Cebuana Lhuillier president & CEO Jean Henri Lhuillier (2nd from left top row) joined by Senior Assistant Vice President and Executive Assistant to the President, Rafael Ladao (1st from left top row), together with the ALS students and school officials, during the opening of the ALS Center in Claudio Sandoval Elementary School in Coron, Palawan in 2019.

Cebuana Lhuillier Foundation, Inc. (CLFI), the corporate social responsibility arm of Cebuana Lhuillier, recently held Bida Best: The 2021 ALS Teachers Digital Summit. Cebuana Lhuillier’s network of Alternative Learning System-Community Learning Centers (ALS-CLSs) teachers attended the event, along with key leaders from DepEd who expressed their support for CLFI’s continuous learning initiative for out-of-school-youth and adult learners.

The Digital Summit highlights the importance of fostering learning continuity to help learners registered under the ALS program finish their education while also taking into consideration the well-being, health, and safety of the ALS Teachers and Implementers, whose dedication to their duties have made blended learning a success.

“Cebuana Lhuillier, through CLFI, has always believed in the value of education for all—regardless of their age and their circumstances in life. And through our Alternative Learning System (ALS) program, we were able to make dreams come true to many of our marginalized kababayans who needed a second chance to start a better life for themselves. More than just a corporate social responsibility program, our push towards continuing education and learning has always been at the core of who we are as an organization. This is made possible thanks to the support of DepEd and the many ALS mentors nationwide, whose genuine love for teaching and dedication for duty truly impacted the lives of many of our learners,” Cebuana Lhuillier president & CEO Jean Henri Lhuillier said.

First Vice President and Group Head for CLFI and CLIB Jonathan Batangan added, “At the time of the pandemic, our ALS Teachers did no less than their best and served as frontline heroes who displayed their ingenuity and genuine concern to their students—often going above and beyond—just to ensure that no student gets left behind. As you prepare for another school year, we hope that you continue to overcome these obstacles with ease.”

Meanwhile, DepEd Secretary Leonor Magtolis-Briones expressed her appreciation to the foundation in supporting the ALS Program by saying, “Cebuana Lhuillier Foundation Inc. has been a staunch partner of DepEd in reaching more out-of-school youth, special cases, and adults who are not able to complete basic education due to difficult circumstances.”

The ALS Teachers Digital Summit was highlighted by best practice presentations in implementing the ALS program at the time of the pandemic. This was led by three noteworthy ALS teachers: Mr. Windel V. Alvarez, ALS Teacher from Sitio Lipata Community Learning Center who shared his Best Practice for Modular Implementation; Ms. Querubin M. Sales, ALS Teacher from Julian A. Pastor Elementary School who shared her Best Practice for Distance Learning; and Mr. Jaspare V. Barrido, ALS Teacher from Nagpana ALS Community Learning Center, who capped off the session with his sharing of Best Practice for Partnerships for Blended Learning.

The summit also featured talks from well-being experts who shared tips and insights on mental, financial, and physical wellness to build inner resilience. Mr. Paolo Trinidad conducted an online laughter yoga session for mental wellness. Mr. Jed Lagmay led discussions on financial well-being during challenging times, and fitness coaches Jim and Toni Saret, gave demos of 1-minute daily chair exercises to boost the immune system and remain healthy. The foundation also took the opportunity to unveil its CEBUANAS 2.0, CLFI’s very own excellence awards for its Alternative Learning Program (ALP). The award will recognize teachers serving at Cebuana Lhuillier ALS centers and their exemplary practices in the implementation of the ALS program.

The Alternative Learning Program is a partnership with the Department of Education that forms part of CLFI’s advocacy towards inclusive education. To date, CLFI has supported approximately 100 ALS Community Learning Centers to reach over 50,000 out-of-school and adult learners across the country.

Nestlé PH recovers 27,000 tons of waste in its first year of neutrality practice

Nestlé Philippines partners with various organizations to achieve and sustain Plastic Neutrality. Following its first year of being plastic neutral, it believes that it can do more by working together with its employees, consumers and other stakeholders.

Nestlé Philippines has achieved a fresh milestone in tackling plastic waste as it completes its first year of plastic neutrality, the first multinational fast-moving consumer goods company in the country to do so.

Since August 2020, the company has collected, co-processed, and diverted from the environment over 27,000 metric tons of plastic waste, slightly above the volume of used plastic in the packaging that it has put out in the market over the past year.

The milestone comes as Nestlé Philippines marks its 110th year in the country, determined to intensify its initiatives towards a waste-free future, with a commitment to make its packaging, including plastics, 100% recyclable or reusable by 2025. Additionally, it commits to reduce a third of virgin plastic use within the same time frame. More specifically, Nestlé Philippines will reduce its use of virgin plastics by 1,100 metric tons in 2021 and is continuously looking for more sustainable packaging through its research centers globally.

The Philippines is the third largest source of ocean plastic worldwide. Nestlé continues to accelerate its initiatives to address plastic waste holistically in the country across three focus areas: (1) developing the packaging for the future, through packaging and delivery innovation and plastic reduction; (2) helping to shape a waste-free future through increased collection and recycling; and (3) driving new behaviors and understanding through solid waste management education.

"As a food and beverage manufacturer with a major presence in the country, we are called upon to be at the forefront in confronting urgent issues that our planet faces. Our vision, which we are working hard to realize, is that none of our packaging, including plastics, ends up in landfills, in oceans, seas, and rivers. A few years ago, we identified plastic neutrality as a major step forward for us as a company and it is our most important environmental milestone to date. The way has been full of challenges, requiring significant investments and a learning curve as we acquired experience. But we have demonstrated that it can be done, and it is viable. We are grateful to our partners including Republic Cement, CEMEX Holdings Philippines, and Plastic Credit Exchange for enabling us to become plastic neutral," said Nestlé Philippines Chairman and CEO Kais Marzouki.

Through its partners, Nestlé Philippines is collecting plastic waste from local government units and communities in different parts of the country. The waste is co-processed in cement kilns, a waste management method by which waste materials are processed at a very high temperature. This breaks down complex materials into simpler compounds and the energy or mineral content of wastes are completely recovered and utilized in the process of producing cement. Emissions from the process are filtered and monitored in compliance with standards of the Department of Environment and Natural Resources.

Looking to the future, Mr. Marzouki said the company is advocating the passage of legislation that will put in place an Extended Producer Responsibility (EPR) scheme for plastic waste. EPR is a comprehensive policy approach in which a manufacturer's or importer's responsibility for a product is extended to the post-consumption stage of its life cycle.

Nestlé also co-developed solid waste management modules for schools and also created condensed materials for teens and parents which have been endorsed by the National Solid Waste Management Commission

To do more together, Nestlé Philippines is encouraging consumers to become a Kasambuhay for the Environment. They can start by visiting Nes.tl/KasambuhayForTheEnvironment where they can access solid waste management modules developed for parents and teens, and learn about the waste cycle, proper segregation, recycling, and more. The website also lists locations where they can drop off their plastic waste for recycling, including Nestlé-sponsored collection points at SM Mall of Asia, SM North Edsa, and SM Fairview, among other sites.

To further its commitment to the planet, Nestlé launched the Isabuhay sa Bahay challenge which aims to encourage its 5,000 strong employees how to live a more sustainable lifestyle for the good of the planet

"At Nestlé Philippines, we are deeply committed to attaining our environmental goals, consistent with our vision of a waste-free future. As we have been in the Philippines for 110
years, we want to leave a legacy, anchored on our respect for the future and coming generations, that includes effectively caring for the planet," Mr. Marzouki said.
