Sky Fiber’s new Super Speed Plans

SKY Fiber is launching its new set of Super Speed Plans on February 1 to deliver on consumers’ need for inexpensive plans with reliable internet connection.

While we all continue to adapt to the new normal, we cannot deny the significance of having a good quality internet connection at home. As an internet service provider, SKY Fiber wants quality internet connection to be accessible to more Filipinos. With our new Super Speed Plans, we have enhanced the speeds of our best value plans bundled with the WiFi Mesh without compromising its affordability,” James Dumlao, SKY’s head of Consumer Products Group, said.

SKY Fiber’s new plans offer Unlimited Broadband Plans with speeds of up to 50Mbps (P1,699/month), 100Mbps (P2,299/month), and 150Mbps (P2,799/month), compared to its previous offering of 40Mbps, 80Mbps, and 120Mbps. The Unli Broadband + HD Cable TV Plans also provide higher speeds of up to 80Mbps (P2,499/month) and 150Mbps (P2,999/month) with more cable channels.

These Super Speed Plans provide subscribers the right balance in terms of speed, strong connectivity, and value for money. Alan Supnet, SKY’s head of Broadband Products, said they looked into the sentiments of many Filipino families when they were developing SKY Fiber’s new set of plans.

Families with a limited budget tend to get low-cost plans or wireless prepaid internet, but risk experiencing slow and spotty connection. On the other hand, ultra-high speed plans that do offer reliable connection come with very high costs, which not a lot of people can afford. SKY Fiber offers that sweet spot that’s ‘swak’ for their needs and budget,” he explained.

The new plans also come with free WiFi Mesh units (number of units included depend on the chosen plan) to evenly distribute the internet signal around the house. To date, SKY Fiber remains to be the only internet service provider in the country that readily bundles the WiFi Mesh for free with its plans.

We made sure to keep the WiFi Mesh included for free in all our broadband plans because we’ve seen how it enhances the experience of our subscribers in eliminating dead zones at home. Most frustrations related to the internet are rooted in poor signal around the home, and the WiFi Mesh is our solution. Anywhere in the house, our subscribers get seamless WiFi coverage without any additional cost,” Supnet said.

For users looking for a reliable plan to cater to their basic internet needs, SKY Fiber still offers its 20Mbps Plan maintained at the affordable price of P999 per month. An Unli Broadband Plan of up to 30 Mbps (P1,299/month) and Unli Broadband + HD Cable TV Plan of up to 40Mbps (P1,699/month) are also new offerings that won’t break the bank.

As a treat for those who subscribe to the new Super Speed Plans within February 1 to April 30, SKY Fiber is offering free and lowered installation fees. Select plans also get a free speed boost until April 30. The boosted speed will depend on the chosen plan. For example, subscribers of the 50Mbps Plan can experience up to 75Mbps until the end of April at no additional cost.

Aside from having new plans, SKY Fiber has made its highest speed plan of up to 200Mbps (P3,499/month) available in all SKY Fiber serviceable areas, which are Metro Manila, Bulacan, Rizal, Cavite, Laguna, Batangas, Baguio, Cebu, Dumaguete, Bacolod, Iloilo, Davao, GenSan, and Zamboanga.

Caltex's Biyaheng Pagtulong nationwide drive to support rehabilitation efforts in Typhoon Odette stricken areas

Caltex, marketed by Chevron Philippines Inc (CPI), announced today its Biyaheng Pagtulong fuel promo. From February 4 to 10, 2022, Caltex network of retailers and marketers will be donating Php1 for every liter of fuel purchased for relief efforts in typhoon-stricken areas such as Bohol, Cebu, Palawan, Surigao and Butuan, which will be topped up by CPI, in partnership with the American Chamber Foundation of the Philippines (AMCHAM Foundation).

All Caltex fuel products are included in this fuel up-to-donate drive and there is no minimum fuel purchase required. The more motorists’ gas-up the higher the chances that the targeted Php5 million fund will be reached for Caltex and its retailers to donate to the typhoon victims.

Typhoon Odette left serious damages across Visayas and Mindanao particularly in Bohol, Cebu, Surigao, Butuan and Northern Palawan. Electricity and water supply have yet to be restored in most of the areas hit by Typhoon Odette. Residents are also struggling with food, clothing, and shelter. Relief efforts in these hard-hit areas are still ongoing.

Chevron Philippines has always been committed to improving the quality of life of the communities we operate in. We want to appeal to the Filipino spirit of Bayanihan to help those in need. It is our hope that the collective contributions will help in addressing the immediate needs of our countrymen affected by Typhoon Odette,” CPI Country Chairman Billy Liu said.

The Caltex Biyaheng Pagtulong promo can be availed at all Caltex stations nationwide except for the areas which were badly hit by the typhoon.

CPI has a long tradition of donations to various charitable non-government organizations such as the Philippine Red Cross. CPI immediately mobilized aid and relief donations in millions during Typhoons Ondoy, Yolanda, and Ulysses, to name a few.

Converge capped off 2021 strong with improved consistency scores across 5 regions

Ookla®, the global leader in internet testing and analysis, recently verified Converge ICT Solutions Inc. as the most consistent fixed internet provider in 5 regions for the last quarter of 2021, namely Metro Manila, Central Luzon, Calabarzon, Ilocos Region, and Cagayan Valley with consistency scores of 82.6, 81.45, 82.99, 80.36, and 85.59 respectively.

Converge’s Q4 2021 score also showed improvement from the same year’s Q1 score of 72.75 to 82.2% consistency score, measuring the percentage of a provider’s samples that equals or exceeds a fixed threshold of 25 Mbps download and 3 Mbps upload.

Likewise, with the thousands of consumer-initiated tests taken with Speedtest®, Converge results showed a median latency rate of 4ms and a jitter rate of 2ms for the last quarter of 2021. The former measures how quickly a device gets a response after a user sends out a request, while the latter measures the delay between when a signal is transmitted and when it’s received.

The mentioned metrics reflected the overall quality of a connection beyond raw speed, validating significant investments on Converge’s high speed network as well as the quality of the connections all over the network.

The goal of all our roll out of initiatives in 2021 was to bring a better experience to Filipinos in underserved and unserved areas – and increasing our consistency every quarter in 2021 is a testament to our dedication to our subscribers,” said Converge COO, Jesus C. Romero. “Converge stays committed to serving its customers especially during the height of the pandemic. We are ready to face 2022 with improved services to connect our kababayans across all islands,” he added.

With the new normal lifestyle that’s here to stay, Converge is looking forward to ease the Filipinos’ online experience and navigate through day-to-day tasks digitally with its seamless, fast, and reliable pure fiber technology in 2022.

Saab Magalona on speaking to your doctor about vaccine-preventable diseases: Do it for your children!

For wife and mother of two, Saab Magalona-Bacarro, making the call to shots for her children is not even a question of getting it done or not. It is the most important thing to do for her children’s health.

“It’s a few minutes of crying in exchange for long-term protection against life-threatening diseases so it’s very much worth it,” the content creator and podcast host said.

Saab and her husband, Jim Bacarro learned the importance of immunization through their own mothers whom they seek advice about parenting. “My husband and I are grateful our own parents have ingrained it (importance of immunization) in us enough to understand its importance in protecting ourselves and our future families.”

Saab also shared the technique that she learned during the first time her baby experienced receiving a jab. “It wasn’t so bad! If you’re breastfeeding, it’s best to feed them while they take the shot so they can be easily comforted.”

She also believes that the children can feel their parent’s energy. “Stay calm and remember that it’s not about you, it’s about your child. If it makes you uncomfortable to see your child get injected, that’s something you will have to overcome.”

“Also, don’t make a big fuss about how they’re so ‘kawawa’ or so brave for doing it. Just be there to hug and comfort them and move on to other things,” she added as she believes that this will help in normalizing vaccination.

She also advised first-time moms to do their research and make sure it’s science based. Aside from that, it is best to seek advice from the pediatrician.

For Saab, getting a shot should not be something to be afraid of. “It’s just a thing we have to do like getting our teeth cleaned at the dentist!”

“Vaccination is a big factor in preventing illnesses and spreading disease,” she said. She also encouraged every parent to make the call and speak with their doctor. “Be proactive in your children’s health and make sure to put your vaccination schedules in whatever calendar you use.”

Just like Saab, MSD’s campaign Call the Shots also invites every Filipino parent to make their call and do the move to level up the protection for their children against vaccine-preventable diseases.

Call the Shots PH is an awareness campaign to help protect parents and their children from vaccine-preventable diseases. This advocacy campaign is brought to you by MSD in the Philippines.

For more information, visit the Call the Shots Facebook Page and consult your pediatrician on how to protect your children against vaccine-preventable diseases.

CCC and Nestlé PH gather the brightest ideas for climate action at the Klimathon Finalist Showcase

10 teams selected to advance to the final round and undergo mentorship sessions from industry experts.

The impacts of climate change have gradually intensified around the world with countries experiencing more severe weather conditions, and sea levels rising at an increasing rate. Without urgent action, these are only foreseen to worsen and among those who will bear the most burden is the next generation.

Recognizing this, the youth is taking a stand towards mitigating climate change in various ways such as supporting environmental causes, reducing their carbon footprint, and using their voices in raising awareness on the current climate situation. The United Nations even described them as “agents of change, entrepreneurs and innovators” when it comes to climate action.

As a way to provide the Filipino youth a platform to develop new and workable solutions that can help address pressing climate concerns, the Climate Change Commission (CCC) and NestlĂ© Philippines launched “Klimathon: Our Race Towards a Net-Zero Reality” last October 2021. Students and young innovators were asked to send in their project concepts focusing on any of these three pillars: plastic waste management, energy efficiency and renewable energy, and food security.

After receiving entries from participants nationwide, CCC and Nestlé have selected 10 teams that will advance to the final stage of the Klimathon and undergo a mentoring program led by experts in the fields of sustainability, agriculture, energy and technology. The finalists presented their project concepts during the virtual Klimathon Finalist Showcase.

Each of the top 10 entries exemplified the youth’s innovative thinking and out of the box approach in helping addressing environmental concerns in the country. From upcycling fish food waste into bioplastic to solar-powered temperature and humidity-controlled food storage boxes.

During the event, the members of the mentoring pool were also introduced to help participants refine their proposed solutions and support them the as they become more involved in climate action moving forward.

After the mentoring sessions, the three winning teams will be named at the Klimathon Finals happening in April 2022. Special citation awards will be given to entries that embody and promote gender empowerment, originality and community participation.

The top 10 finalists and mentors gathered during the showcase together with Nestlé Philippines and the Climate Change Commission during the virtual showcase. Also present was Department of Finance Assistant Secretary Paola Alvarez who talked about the role of the youth in mitigating climate change
When the CCC and NestlĂ© Philippines launched this competition last year, we aimed to showcase what the Filipino youth can offer when it comes to climate action. We want to provide an avenue where they can freely create and develop sustainability-focused ideas for the environment. Knowing more about their innovative and refreshing project concepts today, I do believe we have achieved this goal,” said Mr. Ludwig O. Federigan, Chief of Information and Knowledge Management Division from the Climate Change Commission.

Nestle Philippines AVP for Sustainability and Public Affairs, Ms. Christine Ponce-Garcia, also commended the young finalists: “Seeing these bright minds come together shows us that the future is indeed bright as we journey towards a net-zero reality. At NestlĂ© PH, we celebrate the youth engaged in climate action with their vision and passion. They will be the leaders in ensuring a healthier, more livable planet that they will inherit.”

Globe helps upskill TESDA online scholars via digital citizenship, WiFi 101 lessons

Globe, through Globe University, is providing scholars of the Technical Education and Skills Development Authority’s (TESDA) Online Program (TOP) with relevant content on the basics of WiFi and digital citizenship.

The collaboration aims to help students upskill and develop competencies essential to keep up with drastic changes in today’s world– a goal aligned with Globe University’s aim of upgrading skills of the company’s 8,000-strong workforce. Through the university, Globe employees have been able to access learning materials online since the start of the pandemic.

In line with its vision to become a digital solutions group within the next three years, Globe encourages the use of technology and online platforms to enrich Filipinos’ life experiences. It shares TESDA’s vision to make its services on tech-voc training more accessible through technology-based initiatives.

At this time when online learning plays an integral part in Filipinos’ lives, there is great value in understanding how connectivity works and how our citizens can protect themselves online. With this partnership with TESDA, we believe that our learning modules can help our fellow Filipinos better leverage connectivity in their daily lives as well as objectively discern information they come across on social media,” said Berns Bernardo, Head of Globe University.

The latest Labor Force Survey of the Philippine Statistics Authority shows a 6.5% unemployment rate in November 2021. While the figure was the lowest since the height of the pandemic, it is still a major labor gap at 3.16 million unemployed.

This situation underscores the importance of providing employment support for those without work or people with jobs but do not fit their qualifications.

TOP fills this need by providing free Massive Open Online Courses (MOOCs) for Filipino workers’ technical education and skills development. Being on a web platform, the courses are also an effective and efficient way to deliver tech-voc education and training in the learner’s own space and time.

TOP scholars will have access to modules that tackle factors that affect Wi-Fi connection at home, and simple troubleshooting that can be done to optimize their experience. WiFi 101 is among topics covered under TESDA’s broadband installation course to help trainees learn WiFi fundamentals.

They can also access Globe’s Digital Thumbprint Program (DTP), which has modules designed to train learners, parents, and educators on digital citizenship, online safety, and responsible Internet use.

From the onset of the pandemic to date, there are already 3.2 million registrants on TOP.

Globe previously provided TESDA with necessary communication tools to scale their programs and promote the Abot Lahat ang OFWs program. Abot Lahat supports returning OFWs and their dependents through scholarship and retooling.

We have noted that the labor sector bore the brunt of the economic impact of the pandemic and the government looked for ways to help our kababayans who lost their jobs. TESDA has never wavered on its commitment to serve our kababayans in their times of need, we have been helping them upgrade their skills and giving them opportunities to find ways to earn with our various programs,” Isidro Lapeña, TESDA Director General said.

TOP offers free online courses such as computer systems servicing, food processing, bread and pastry, and housekeeping, among others, with many other courses available from the automotive, agriculture, entrepreneurship and healthcare sectors. Interested parties can register online through the TOP website at https://e-tesda.gov.ph.

Globe strongly supports the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals, particularly UN SDG No. 4, which ensures inclusive and equitable quality education and promotes lifelong learning opportunities for all. It also supports UN SDG 9 which aims to build resilient infrastructure, promote inclusive and sustainable industrialization, and foster innovation. It is committed to upholding the UN Global Compact principles and contributing to 10 UN SDGs.

Celebrating A Family Occasion Amidst The Pandemic

It’s been more than a year since the pandemic started. We are still celebrating birthdays, holidays, and other family occasions without the usual things that we love to do. Due to the ongoing restrictions, we may be missing out on dine-ins, out of town vacations, and gatherings among family and friends.

Virtual parties during this pandemic are the current alternatives for special events. But a family celebration can still be special. It’s simply a matter of being more creative with what you have.

Make the start of the day special
Begin the day by preparing a superb breakfast. Play some music to make it livelier and more memorable.
Deliver love to your home
This is perfect for those who are away from their families. Let your family feel your presence by surprising them with the delivery of food. For birthday occasions, you can book a delivery for a cake and balloons.
Doing things together at home
The country has eased up restrictions on certain tourist spots. However, activities at home remain to be hassle-free and with fewer worries.
Play board games, watch movies, or do other things with your family at home. Bring the spa experience to the comforts of your own place!
Party virtually!
Who wouldn’t love to catch up with your long-distance relatives and friends? Video conference platforms are available for us to use. Just send them a link and let the party begin – virtually!
The gift of health
For every special occasion, the best gift is good health and safety. Aside from staying at home, you can speak to your family about immunization against COVID-19 and other vaccine-preventable diseases.
There are already approved COVID-19 vaccines here in the Philippines. Everyone is encouraged to sign up for vaccination. Local government units are giving free COVID-19 vaccines.
The pandemic is far from over, but by getting vaccinated, we are moving a step closer to achieving herd immunity. Soon, we may be back to face-to-face reunions and other gatherings! To get the latest updates in immunization, visit Call The Shots PH Facebook page: https://www.facebook.com/CallTheShotsPH/
Call the Shots PH is an awareness campaign to protect expectant parents and their children from vaccine-preventable diseases. This advocacy is brought to you by MSD in the Philippines.

AirAsia, the world’s best low-cost airline, is welcoming February with huge discounts on flights, hotels and ancillary products through its CNY Deals Never Stop Promo and 2.2 Save Now, Fly Later Sale.

AirAsia joins the rest of the tourism sector of the Philippines in championing safe domestic travels this year in a bid to jumpstart the recovery of travel businesses – from small to large enterprises. To achieve this, the travel and lifestyle company is rolling out multiple bang-for-buck deals for flights and other travel essentials like hotel bookings and in-flight add-on purchases. AirAsia Philippines maintains its optimism for growth in the traveling populace this year, a forecast backed by a survey that has shown more Filipinos are confident to travel in the next nine months.

The same survey has also shown that AirAsia guests stay loyal to the travel company because of the value for money it offers (80%) and promos and package deals (69%). This is reflective of AirAsia’s own DNA of attainable travel enabling everyone to fly.

AirAsia Philippines Spokesperson and Head of Communications and Public Affairs Steve Dailisan shares: “As we continue to learn how to better live safely in a pandemic, we see the rise in the confidence for travel among Filipinos. The Php 188 base fare deal is perfect for those seeking luck on the road in 2022 as it is believed in numerology that numbers bearing multiple instances of eight are extra lucky! And lucky are the passengers grabbing this promo – may it be for seasonals like Valentine’s, Summer or simple family getaways – as it covers flights booked for until end-September.

But those with a top-tier waiting game may snag a Php 22 base fare flight during the actual 2.2 Save Now, Fly Later sale from February 2 to 4. The travel period for this is from June 01 to September 30, 2022.
