Robinsons Bank is bringing smiles in the homes of children this Christmas

In this Season of Giving, Robinsons Bank’s promise of a brighter future for every Filipino took the path of donating electronic tablets to schoolchildren in various communities nationwide to help them cope with the requirements of online schooling for the coming year.

“Many families are still struggling with the setup of remote learning, whether it is the lack of a gadget to use or difficulty in accessing the internet. We wanted to provide support to these children so they can continue with their education and achieve the brighter future they deserve,” RBank President Elfren Antonio Sarte stated.

Mr. Sarte also added that “Our strong advocacy on financial literacy for children has led us to witness their eagerness and passion for learning. It would be disheartening to know that there are children out there who want to keep learning but have no means to. So, we pushed for this initiative to really help those children in need.”

In lieu of RBank’s corporate giveaways, the children received sim cards along with the electronic tablets, which they can use to access the internet for their online schooling.

Despite the challenges that this year has brought, the Bank’s passion for service remains unwavering. RBank will always be committed to fulfilling the needs of the Filipino people.

With Robinsons Bank, the future is bright!

Robinsons Bank is the financial services arm of the JG Summit Group of Companies, one of the largest conglomerates in the Philippines. It currently ranks 18th among universal and commercial banks in the country, with assets amounting to Php 131.088 Bn as of December 2019. The Bank is recognized as the Fastest Growing Commercial Bank in the Philippines for 2020 by the Global Business Outlook; and the Best Commercial Bank in the Philippines for 2020 by the International Business Magazine. Get Inspired, Relax and Unwind With the Latest Movies and Series with Globe and Netflix

Unlike before, we cannot just head to the mall to stroll, shop, or watch movies at the cinemas whenever we feel bored at home. As a matter of fact, our homes have now become a place for everything including entertainment. Streaming platforms redefined the way content is consumed and Netflix has become a household name for its wide breadth of movies, series, documentaries, and original content that anyone can pull up anytime they feel the need to relax and unwind.

This is why getting yourself a Netflix subscription is one of the most worthwhile purchases you can make nowadays. With all the time we are spending at home, watching movies and series is one way to gain inspiration to pursue and discover new passions like taking on your business dreams with the hit Korean series Start-Up or rehashing your chess-playing skills with The Queen’s Gambit! Already done with these? Here’s a tip: whenever you can’t decide what to watch, or feel like you’ve already watched it all, create a list of your must-watch titles on Netflix and exchange them with your friends. Who knows, you might just discover your next favorite thing!

Whether you are on the go or staying at home, you can stream a whole ton of movies and series uninterrupted (no ads!) and in HD with Netflix’s flexible plans. The Mobile plan is perfect for those who do not want to miss an episode of their favorite shows, while the Premium plan is best for families since it allows streams across four devices.

And with Globe, your Netflix experience is made even more convenient since you can charge your subscription to your Globe Postpaid or Globe At Home Postpaid bill. You can also choose and change your subscription plans anytime depending on what best fits your viewing needs.

“In a time where streaming films and movies have become some sort of a repose for most of us, Globe and Netflix make world class entertainment more accessible to viewers by providing an easier way to pay for their subscription even without a credit card,” said Griselda Bausa-Go, Vice President of Globe's Get Entertained Tribe. “With this, we also aim to encourage Filipinos to watch their favorite shows and movies through legitimate platforms like Netflix.”

Globe Postpaid customers can easily subscribe to Netflix via the GlobeOne App while Globe At Home customers can charge their subscription to their plan to enjoy next-level entertainment in the comfort of your home. For a worry-free viewing experience, you can register to the GoWATCH10 and GoKOREAN10 data add ons with any Go promo of Globe Prepaid, and HomeWATCH199 for Home Prepaid Wifi for additional 4GB for video apps such as Netflix.

Watch How Globe Helps Filipinos Recreate the #ChristmasWeLove This Holiday Season

Filipinos are known to have the grandest (and longest) Christmas celebrations out there, complete with all kinds of traditions and merry-making. Now that safety restrictions are still in place, however, we are definitely looking at a very different kind of celebration this year. While it’s hard not to feel deflated in the absence of the usual Christmas buzz, maybe we can take it as an opportunity to cherish those in our lives, while also giving a bit of ourselves to people around us, extending kindness and support in any way we can.

Through its newest video, Globe highlights how small acts of kindness can bring us together, show our thoughtfulness, and help us celebrate the traditions we treasure this season. Just like its commitment to help Filipinos recreate better days, Globe is one with all of us in continuing to celebrate the #ChristmasWeLove despite the uncertainty of the times we live in.

Globe believes that where there is kindness, there is Christmas. Strip away the shiny decorations and lights, and we see the season is really all about love and generosity of spirit. Every time we choose to be a blessing to others, whether it’s to our loved ones or complete strangers, we are embodying the true meaning of Christmas and sharing its magic to more people in the hopes of them paying it forward to others as well.

Part of the holiday magic lies in the traditions we cherish every year.  This year, Globe makes it possible for the 2020 Metro Manila Film Festival (MMFF) to go on, with its movies streamed through the new video-on-demand platform, Upstream, and tickets from GMovies.  Filipinos anywhere can now watch the best and brightest of local films as they do every Christmas season.  Globe’s 12 Treats of Christmas also promises to recreate Christmas cheer through an array of digital holiday events and experiences such as SuperGamerFest thru Globe Prepaid Virtual Hangouts, a Christmas Concert @ Home featuring December Avenue by Globe At Home, and a Christmas edition of Globe Poppin Quiz Night.

The TM FunPasko Music Fest on December 15 is also an enjoyable event not to be missed,  where local artists like SB19, The Juans, and Donnalyn Bartolome will perform on the virtual stage to delight everyone at home!

To cap the holiday fun, special Christmas offers from various merchants await customers at the Globe Rewards app. Use your points to redeem rewards from [merchants] and even to different causes and organizations that Globe supports.

This holiday season, celebrating the #ChristmasWeLove is made possible with Globe. To know more about this story, visit globe.com.ph/christmas.

Sneak Peek on the Future of Gaming with 5G by Globe's Holi-Games

With all the time we are spending at home, more and more people are turning to  gaming as a fun way to bond with friends and family even when they are miles away. If you’re  looking to level up your game, Globe has just what you need.

For the Holi-Games Showcase, the 3rd episode of Globe’s #ChristmasWeLove Live Pop-Up, celebrity couple and gamers Mikael Daez and Megan Young demonstrated how Globe 5G can usher in the new generation of gaming for everyone with its promise of lower latency and lightning-fast speeds.

Through this, cloud gaming becomes possible, which means you can play a wide array of games on demand without having to buy a console or a gaming PC – all you need is your phone! To show how amazing this can be, Mikael and Megan played a game of King of Fighters XIII on the Gameloft Stream powered by Blacknut Cloud Gaming App, of course using Globe 5G. The two noted how smooth and seamless the gameplay is as they did not experience any input lag while playing.

When talking about 5G, virtual reality (VR) will  always be in the conversation. VR provides a more immersive and dynamic experience to the game, bringing the players into different worlds beyond their limited space. If you want to discover and watch VR videos for free, you can try it  on YouTube, the official VR partner of Globe, using the Globe VR cardboard. This is a great way to travel virtually this holiday while staying safe at home.

Finally, the much-awaited Niantic AR Demo trailer was also shown at the Holli-Games Showcase. Globe is the only Southeast Asian founding member of the Niantic Planet-Scale AR Alliance, which will make available exclusive 5G-ready AR content, and demonstrate consumer AR experiences that set the standard for what innovation means in a 5G world.

Because it’s the season of giving, Mikael and Megan gave Globe 5G-ready phones to three lucky viewers who answered the League of Legends: Wild Rift Pop Quiz questions correctly so they can jumpstart their 5G journey with Globe. They also played a League of Legends: Wild Rift match-up with Team Liyab where the winner gets to donate Php 50,000 to their charity of choice. In the end, Megan and her team won for Smile Train Philippines.

You can also play Wild Rift with your friends when you subscribe to GoSURF with free GoWatch and Play, GG30 and GG50, or GoPLAY10 booster for Globe Prepaid via the GlobeOne app.

You may still catch Globe’s Holi-Games show on Globe’s Facebook page via this link: https://www.facebook.com/globeph/videos/1270674469960844/.

Globe’s powerful 5G network is now available in 11 cities in Metro Manila, and in key areas in Davao and Cebu. Visit globe.com.ph/5g to know more.

Canva’s ‘Makers And Shapers’ Report: The Designs That Defined 2020

Global graphic design platform, Canva, today released its inaugural end-of-year ‘Makers and Shapers’ Report, highlighting how users from around the world reacted to some of the biggest history-making events that took place in 2020.

From businesses navigating the COVID-19 pandemic, through to the catastrophic natural disasters that ravaged the Philippines, Canva’s global community of 40 million active users have designed and shared everything from social media posts to online presentations — to amplify, educate and inspire people with their message.

Explore the major trends from Canva’s data below, to understand how Filipinos, and those across the world, have used visual communications to help reach their goals this year:

COVID-19: The World Pivots As Misinformation Spreads

The impact of COVID-19 has been felt across the globe. Since March, Canva saw over 2.9 million search queries for COVID-related templates as the world came to grips with responding to the pandemic. Canva’s community turned to the design platform to create awareness posters, social media material, and WHO-approved health information in a bid to help #StopTheSpread of misinformation and keep communities COVID safe.

Canva’s in-house design team created more than 2,100 corona virus templates, backed by accurate information from the World Health Organization, that were made freely available amid the uncertainty, shared by news organizations, government bodies, and consumers across the globe.

Globally, over 14 million COVID templates were downloaded, with the top five most active countries using these templates among some of the hardest hit in terms of COVID-19 casualties, including USA, Brazil, Mexico, Indonesia, and Colombia.

Society Moves to a Virtual World

2020 was the year of the Zoom background, as more people were forced to shift to remote working, learning, and entertainment. Over 195,000 Filipinos downloaded templates for Zoom backgrounds, as meetings and gatherings were mostly held online. Leading the charge, users in the USA downloaded 1.3 million Zoom backgrounds alone — that equates to 1 in every 253 people across the country using a Canva Zoom background design this year. Globally, over 4 million Zoom backgrounds were created and downloaded on Canva.

With getaways to some of the world’s most adored holidays destinations off the cards this year, it seems most  Canva users have expressed their dreams of a “tranquil” getaway through their Zoom backgrounds, with the top three most downloaded templates globally including a tropical beach, a peaceful waterfall, and a serene underwater seascape.

Visual templates such as presentations were crucial in helping people communicate and collaborate
remotely, with businesses, teams, educators, and students, all shifting to remote work.

Canva for Education, launched earlier this year, saw rapid uptake as online learning and virtual classrooms became the new norm. With over 700 new templates published to the education platform this year, the top five downloaded education templates for the year were:

2020: The Year of the Side Hustle

With many businesses impacted by COVID-19, the pandemic also sparked a new wave of innovators and creative entrepreneurs. 2020 saw people of all ages pivot to launch their mini side hustle, passion project, or new business, using Canva.

In the Philippines, around 3.3 million logos were created to date while the whole world registered record-breaking results:

·         More than 65 million new logos were designed on Canva — that’s more than 7,400 new logos created every single hour (or over 123 every single minute) around the world

·         Over 12 million business cards were printed globally through Canva Print — which is more than the entire population of Belgium!

Saving The World: Climate Change

Canva’s climate change collection templates were downloaded more than 2.6 million times as climate activists shared their passionate campaign messages via posters, social media material, and event flyers.

Greta Thunberg and David Attenborough were also among some of the most searched-for climate-related queries on the Canva platform.

Canva partnered with youth-led group, Future Coalition, to create assets for the 2020 Earth Day Digital Strikes. The colorful templates created by Canva’s in-house designers were used by thousands of digital strikers around the world.

Touching Tributes

And for those we lost in 2020, mourning fans paid their respects to passed icons through compelling and nostalgic design tributes. Kobe Bryant (January 26), Chadwick Boseman (August 28), and Ruth Bader Ginsberg (September 18) were among the most searched-for figures on the Canva platform this year as fans, supporters, and the media reacted to their passing with touching visual tributes on social media and beyond.

… And Finally, Some Fun Facts;

·         Canva saw record growth in 2020, reaching over 40 million monthly active users.

·         For those who love their fonts, the top three most used font types in the Philippines for 2020 were: Glacial Indifference, League Spartan, Anton

·         On the bright side: Canva users were sharing the love in 2020, with the Heart textbox and Love symbol among the most used stickers this year. Most used stickers in the Philippines were:

·         Primary colors were on point this year, being the most used colors in the Philippines: #FFDE59, #FF1616, #004AAD

·         Over 540 ‘Canvanauts’ joined the Canva team in 2020.

Globe recreates the holiday season with #ChristmasWeLove Live Pop-Up

Christmas is one of the most awaited events in the Philippines. The holiday rush can be felt as early as September, with Christmas songs playing in malls and people already planning parties and shopping for gifts. This year might look a little different with the pandemic still going on, but Globe is reminding everyone that the Christmas we love is still here in the warmth of the family, the traditions we honor, and the connections we’ve made.

Globe is ushering the holiday season with #ChristmasWeLove, a series of live digital pop-ups featuring fun activities so families and friends can still celebrate even when they’re apart. For its first initiative, Globe held Carol-oke Night, an evening of carols with Morissette, Darren Espanto, Gabbi Garcia, and Khalil Ramos. The live pop-up was hosted by Nikko Ramos and Bea Fabregas- Ramos.

“The year may be tough but Globe is recreating the holidays so we can still feel the Christmas spirit. With #ChristmasWeLove Live Pop-Up events, we hope to remind everyone that we can still celebrate and send each other love from the comfort of our homes,” says Globe Consumer Business Head Issa Guevarra-Cabreira.

In Carol-oke Night, Espanto sang “Dying Inside to Hold You,” his newest holiday single “Believe in Christmas,” and the classic “All I Want For Christmas is You.” Meanwhile, Garcia and Ramos played the game Fast-ko and sang Ben&Ben’s “Bibingka.” Morissette closed the show with a powerful performance of “Panaginip,” “Begin,” and “This is Christmas.” Viewers were encouraged to sing along and dedicate the songs to their loved ones in the comments section, which were flashed during the live pop-up on Facebook.

Carol-oke Night is the first of a series of live pop-ups that Globe is hosting in the weeks leading up to Christmas. The next will be a Holi-Game Showcase on December 4. A Metro Manila Film Festival (MMFF) Quiz Night will be held on December 11, while the MMFF Night with the Stars will be held on December 18. The live pop-ups will culminate with a K-Pop Kristmas on December 21. All the events will be held on Globe’s Facebook page.

The country may be practicing social distancing guidelines but Globe is making sure that Filipinos can still feel the togetherness and shared warmth of the #ChristmasWeLove.

I salute all of the teachers who have been with us for many years now and I thank you for the trust and for believing in the 51Talk platform. As we move forward to the next year, expect greater and better things from 51Talk,” he added.

As COVID-19 forced the shutdown of physical schools in China earlier this year, Chinese parents used the extra time their children had to book additional English lessons on the online education platform. The surge of additional lessons was delivered by 51Talk’s more than 25,000 home-based teachers in the Philippines. This prompted 51Talk to attract 30,000 Filipino teachers this year to fulfil the increasing demand of online English education in China, an industry that enjoys explosive growth annually.

The 51TalkFlix event also showcased the awe-inspiring talents of the teachers in its annual competition, Talent to the Max. 51Talk’s outstanding teachers and clubs were also recognized. A special segment of Chinese students giving their teachers a heart-warming tribute on this special day was also part of the program.

The 51TalkFlix event’s celebrity guests, Ebe Dancel and Morissette, paid tribute to the teachers through their performances.

The event also featured performances from today’s hottest stars such as legendary OPM singer/songwriter Ebe Dancel who serenaded the teachers, and Asia’s Phoenix, Morissette, who wowed the crowd with her rendition of pop songs and original singles.

Rounding out the list of personalities during the event was 51Talk’s Philippine Brand Ambassador Pia Wurtzbach, who delivered an inspirational message. Pia was chosen to represent 51Talk because of her long-time advocacy of empowering Filipinos through livelihood opportunities. Because the pandemic affected and displaced millions of Filipino workers, Pia used her voice and platform to talk about 51Talk and the earning opportunities of being an online English teacher.

51Talk’s Philippine Brand Ambassador and Miss Universe 2015 Pia Wurtzbach surprised the online audience with a video message and greeting. “Thanks for all that you do. I am proud of all of you and I hope you will continue to excel and help more students succeed in life,” said Pia.

“When I joined the 51Talk family, I was thrilled to help spread the word about the 30,000 livelihood opportunities on the platform. I love to empower my fellow Pinoys and I believe in our skills, dedication, and our capability to succeed and flourish when faced with opportunities,” said Pia. “To all of the 51Talk teachers, Happy Teacher’s Day!”

Before the event wrapped up, Ms. Que thanked the thousands of teachers who participated in the teachers’ day celebration while promising to deliver an even bigger and better event next year.

“51Talk is the best place to be right now. To all 51Talk teachers, thank you for enabling our students to speak up, stand out and succeed. Keep up the good work and Happy Teachers’ day to all of you!” Ms. Que exclaimed.
